Pregnancy and Baby Checklists
Mums Bubs and Gifts have put together some helpful checklists, to help you prepare for your new arrival!
Preparing the Nursery
- Bassinet and mattress
- Bassinet sheet protector and sheet sets - at least 3 sheet sets
- Cot and mattress
- Cot sheet protector and sheet sets - at least 3 sheet sets
- Blankets - at least 3 or 4
- Baby monitor
- Change table and change mat
- Essential toiletries (baby organic bath wash, powder, nappy cream, wipes etc)
- Newborn nappies either cloth or disposable
- Baby bath, chooseone with a plug
- Bath ramp to lay baby on for bathing with ease as they get older
- Bath seat for when baby is old enough to sit up
- Towels - at least 3 or 4
- Washers - between 6 - 10, you can never have too many
- Water temperature thermometer
- Nail scissors/clippers
- Hairbrush and comb set
- Nightlight/lamp
- Cot mobile
- Room furniture ie cupboard, chest of drawers etc
- Baby bouncer
- Baby rattles and activity toys
- Activity mat
- Highchair for when baby is old enough to start solids
- Household safety items for when baby is older such as power outlet covers, door/cupboard safety latches, stove guards etc
- Burpers - hand towels or cloth nappies are a perfect size for these
Essential Baby Clothing
- Bodysuits - at least 5 or 6
- Singlets - at least 5 or 6
- All in one suits for summer bubs - at least 5 or 6
- Socks - at least 5 or 6 pairs of cotton socks for summer bubs
- Woollen socks for winter bubs - at least 5 or 6 pair
- All in one suits for winter bubs - at least 5 or 6
- Going out outfits for summer bubs - at least 3 or 4
- Going out outfits for winter bubs - at least 3 or 4
- Sun hats - at least 2
- Bunny rugs a mixture of summer light weight and flannelette ones for winter - at least 3 or 4 of each
Going Out Essentials
- Baby car seat
- Extra bolt and extension straps if required
- Baby car seat head support
- Car window signs and sunshades
- Pram
- Nappy bag
- Bag warmer/cooler
- Pram sunshade/rain cover, insect cover
- Trolley mate - shopping trollery cover
- Baby carrier if required
- Porta cot if required
Packing Nappy Bag for Outings
- Nappies
- Nappy sacks
- Baby wipes
- Tissues
- Nappy cream
- Baby change mat
- Hat and suncream
- Spare change of clothes
- Toy/rattle/book to keep baby amused
- If bottle feeding you will need to take appropriate amount of bottles etc
- Burpers/hand towels
- Spare dummy if required
- Don't forget to throw in some snacks and bottle of water for yourself
- Trolley mate - shopping trolley cover
Baby Nappy Bag for Hospital
- Nappies
- 4 or 5 sleepsuits
- 4 or 5 singlets
- Socks or booties
- Blankets/bunny rugs
- Mittens if winter bub
- Going home outfit
- Baby hospital book (depending upon your hospitals requirements)
- Baby toiletries (wipes, baby wash, cream etc)
Hospital Bag
Depending upon what is supplied by your hospital you may not require all the items below they are simply a guide only!
- Loose fitting clothes for day time wear
- Dressing gown
- 2 or 3 open front nighties or pyjamas
- Slippers
- Thongs
- At least 2 packs of maternity pads
- At least 2 packs of nursing bras
- Breast pads
- Toiletries
- Towels
- Books or magazines
- A going home outfit
- Lots of underpants
- Socks for winter time births
- A pen for filling out papers/meals
Labour Bag
- An old t-shirt or nightie to give birth in
- Massage oil
- Spray bottle for water - great for spraying face to keep cool
- Lip balm for dry lips during labour
- Socks if winter time
- Snacks and drinks for your partner
- A camera to take photos if desired
- Music - depending upon your hospitals policy
- Magazines or books for partner to read
